1000 Skyshapes at the White House , 2022
5.7 x 8 in (h x w)
digital collage using source photo of White House by Kurt Klinner

A speculative digital rendering of the completed 1000 Skyshapes on the lawn at the White
House. The work is a collapsible, light-weight structure built in aluminum and cloth.
Designed to be quickly assembled or disassembled with just two people and my personal
vehicle, 1000 Skyshapes is a transient sculpture that can appear and disappear within a
day while also having the stability necessary to be installed for up to a week.
The entirety of the piece is available from only one narrow area of the work, the rest curves
above eye level. I am interested in the idea that a single person would take in the whole
piece for their own contemplative viewing. This public sculpture is not meant for mass
consumption. The lavishness of this perspective makes new possible venues for public art
throughout the neighborhoods of Detroit: for a single family household, in a quiet
neighborhood park, or a block party.
