ARTIST STATEMENT
It's been said that "Photographs don't lie, but Photographers do." What I do is not so much lie, but invite you into the hidden world where reality morphs into explosions of color, patterns, and memories. I create abstract pieces from digital photographic files. When I choose a photo to work with, I begin with no preconceived notions about what the finished piece will become. By cropping, rotating, layering, and exploiting color and contrast, the image is recreated. I let the shapes, patterns, and colors dictate how they will be transformed into something either surreal or even pure design.

ABOUT THIS ARTWORK
The appeal of using an exacting medium such as photography, and transforming its images into other realities appeals to the irony of art. By using technology, in my case Photoshop, I can take a mundane photo of a fallen tree and transform it into an image that draws a viewer in so they can discover their own reality. The once organic now evokes joy, angst, acceptance, or wonder.

Please note - the actual physical dimensions of this piece are 30 x 20 inches (h x w). The relative size of this work has been adjusted for the purposes of the virtual gallery presentation.
