Artist’s Statement
Using her body, audio soundscape and installation, Piyali’s performance bridges the space between decorative motif and abstract form, in which the process of mark-making becomes an act of reclamation, including the reclamation of selfhood. The work focuses on the conceptual form of deconstruction and reconstruction through the emotional body movements that extend across times to depict a new narrative. Responding to her drawing installation, body movements become an integral part of the drawing creating animated distorted forms and reflecting different moods and emotions that narrate post-war scenes of mourning and loss.
