Inspiration:
This artwork is a celebration of friendship and our connections, the solidarity of sisterhood and the joys ofwomankind. It is a direct reference to our unbroken bond to lunar and revolving life cycles. The circular paper shapes not only represent a life cycle, borne from human touch and made of recycledmaterials, they also take on a new life once coated with the light sensitive solutions, left to dry andexposed to the elements of sun, rain, snow and water over time. The process of capturing and recordingMother Nature in all her glory, and creating art works using her power just all seemed to fit perfectly withthe feminine message and motifs within my work.
Technique:
Lunar Etiquette In Blue (3D)was created by constructiga hand-cut collage using female photographicportraiture and the surface textures from lunar photographs. After coating the handmade paper with light-sensitive chemistry, it is left to dry in a dark room. The largescale negative is then contact printed onto the paper by exposing to daylight (UV rays). The print is thenprocessed by thoroughly washing in water to remove any unexposed solution. It can then be hung to dry, developing to full density Prussian blue after 24 hours. Once the images are fixed they are hand cut andarranged into 3-dimensional collaged layers before framing.
