Szene und Darstellung des Offiziers mit der "Tochter" von Cardillac, dem Goldschmied,  in der Oper von Paul Hindemith, in Anlehnung an das prächtige goldene Bühnenbild von Rolf Glittenberg.
Der Konflikt mit Cardillac und seiner Tochter steht hier im Vordergrund des Gemäldes. Der Offizier versucht seiner zukünftigen Angetrauten die verheerende Sachlage  mit den Schmuckstücken des Vaters und den dazu ausgeführten  Morden impulsiv zu verdeutlichen. Farbenpracht in Gelb und der Kontrast des schwarzen Mantels des Offiziers geben dem Ölbild die notwendigen Akzente.

Scene and portrayal of the officer with the "daughter" of Cardillac, the goldsmith, in the opera by Paul Hindemith, based on the magnificent golden stage set by Rolf Glittenberg.
The conflict with Cardillac and his daughter is at the centre of the painting. The officer tries to impulsively explain the devastating situation to his future bride with his father's jewellery and the murders carried out for this purpose. A blaze of colour in yellow and the contrast of the officer's black coat give the oil painting the necessary accents.
