Taking the Tachisme style a step further the paintings tries to encompass some universal observations in nature. Taking elements from the Somerset lane series of paintings with the view down a holloway lane the image also becomes something that might be seen in deep space by the Hubble telescope. The forms seen in the aftermath of great explosions in space, the movement of matter and the formation of black holes can also be compared to natural events on a microscale with cellular and viral morphological changes.

The black surround interest me in that ultimately it consumes all light and matter in a way we imagine black holes do. Everything is absorbed. Therefore everything (and at the same time nothing) exists outside these circles. It represents for me how the unpredictable nature of the wild often looks the same on so many levels. Our knowledge horizons are expanding on every front – into a world of new planets, black holes and microbes, from the infinite to the infinitesimal.
