Arundathi Wijetilleke – The Bridge at McKee Gardens

Actual Size: 12" x 16"

Arundathi (Arun) Wijetilleke was born in Sri Lanka. She began her interest in art at the age of three when her father was so impressed by her drawing of a bunny with multicolored raindrops, that he continued to encourage her talents and nurture her interest in art over the years and her artistic abilities grew. At the age of twelve, she sold her first three paintings and she started the collection of many awards including the prestigious Reeves of London Award for the Best Student in Art, and also the Annual Art Prize while in high school. She was also featured extensively at the National Art Gallery of Sri Lanka. With the encouragement of her parents and teachers, she continued to do very well as a young artist.

After obtaining her Bachelor of Arts Degree from the University of London, Arun immigrated to New Jersey with her husband and then moved to Florida where she has resided since 1975.

In Florida, she was a student of Master Impressionist William Schultz and Professor Jane Howard. Locally, her work has been exhibited at multiple venues, including the Museum of Art in Vero Beach and the Backus Gallery of Fort Pierce, where she was awarded the Tri-County Award for the Best oil painting.

Arun's commissioned work can be viewed at the Citrus Museum, The Garden Club of Indian River County and Christ-By-The-Sea Methodist Church, in addition to private collectors across the nation. Since 1992, she has designed the Limited Edition Annual Christmas Ornament of the Garden Club of Indian River County, which is now in the 29th year of production. She is a member of the Vero Beach Art Club, and also the Vero Beach Museum of Arts where she was awarded multiple awards such as at the Annual Art In Bloom Shows; for her floral interpretations of selected works of art in their permanent collection.

She is a Nationally and Internationally accredited Master Flower Show Judge of The National Garden Clubs Inc. and has also served on the Boards of Trustees of the Vero Beach Museum of Art and McKee Botanical Garden.

Arun's impressionistic painting style is strongly influenced by both Eastern and Western cultures. She works in oils, acrylics, pastels and mixed media to reflect a vibrant, yet calm and joyful celebration of Mother Nature. She loves to capture that fleeting moment of joy in the colors of the rainbow glittering and dancing on the ripples of a wayside pool strewn with water lilies.
