"Would I were a careless Child"
20 x 30 inch (h x w)
Pen and Marker on Paper

Mary Anning (child fossil collector, paleontologist), Joseph Smith (founder of Mormonism), Charles Dickens (writer and social critic), and Charles Darwin (naturalist) were all children before, during, and after the global impact of the eruption of Mount Tambora in Sumbawa, Indonesia. Given the political, social, and meteorological temperature around the globe, it is quite likely that these children may have developed some of their future interests at this time, and their world view was certainly changed due to the circumstances of the anomalous weather and subsequent hardships that touched their lives, and in the case of Darwin and Anning, the many changes in the natural world may have actually opened up their ability to discover and explore in the way that they did.
