Artist Statement:
Believe me. Over 17 seasons of Law & Order: SVU, the words are whispered, yelled, ordered, or cried by victims, criminals, witnesses, experts, and detectives alike. But who do we believe and why? What role does gender play in who we judge as trustworthy? Examining the construction of authority and the performance of believability, True Believers collects these decontextualized moments into a nearly complete archive that asks us to judge for ourselves. The video takes its name from an episode in the 13th season of the show.
