Born in Sarajevo, Poskovic has lived in the United States since 1991. In his very large, visually-arresting, doom-filled landscape woodblock prints, images of flight and impotence are frequently combined with cheerfully banal, propagandistic inscriptions. These edgy images imply narratives and a worldview of loss and disillusionment tempered with optimism and irony. Poskovic moves comfortably in the world of graphic expression, combining clear, confident drawing, a marvelous sense of color, digital manipulations and traditional woodcut technique. After Poskovic’s 2007 solo exhibition organized by the Des Moines Art Center, Print Club commissioned this print.
