Weaam El Masry is an Egyptian Cairo-based multi-award winning visual artist. She holds a PH.D. in media art from the Faculty of Applied Arts, Helwan University. She works as a lecturer at the Faculty of Arts & Design, MSA University. She is also a painter who at times moves to photography, animation, and installation. Her work has been exhibited at galleries, festivals, Biennales and museums locally and internationally notably; the Biblical Book and Book-Object Biennale, 1st edition, National Literary Museum - Bucharest, Romania 2018, the 10th Luxor International Painting Symposium, The Egyptian Ministry Of Culture (Through Its Cultural Development Fund), Luxor, Egypt (2017), the Florence Biennale 2015 (Italy), 5th Beijing International Art Biennale 2012 (China), One Minute Film & Video Festival in Aarau 2008 (Switzerland), The Egyptian Museum of Contemporary Art, and many groups and solo exhibitions in Egypt and abroad. With over 25 awards and scholarships from different institutions in Egypt and abroad; for example, but not limited to; The UNESCO-Aschberg Bursaries for Artists, the Culture Resource Award for Artistic Production for Young Arab Artists & Writers (the Arab region), D.A.A.D (Germany), Pro-Helvetia (the Swiss Arts Council), Alexandria library (Egypt), Kulturamt Düsseldorf (Germany) and over 60 exhibitions under her belt. El Masry’s works are in private and public collections; notably Bibliotheca Alexandrina; The Museum of Egyptian Modern Art and private collections in Egypt, Germany, USA, United Arab Emirates, Lebanon, and Spain.
El-Masry worked as a consultant for the Egyptian minister of culture for grants and funding affairs (October – November 2014). She also worked as a curator for national and international events within and in collaboration with the governmental sector of Fine Arts. She was the director of the second edition of the International Digital Arts Festival (Egypt) which took place in March 2017, she also curated the Salon of Youth, the Egyptian pavilion at The Biennial of Cuenca, Ecuador. She worked as a Head of Passage 35 Screening Hall and as an Assistant Curator at The First International Media Art Forum for Youth. She curated several workshops and screenings, Such as; Animation art workshop, Interactive art workshop, Illustration art workshop, the Japanese animation film festival. She was also a recipient of the Curator in residence scholarship from (Pro-Helvetia) “Swiss Arts Council".
تعمل وئام المصرى كمدرس بكلية الفن والتصميم بجامعة أكتوبر للعلوم الحديثة والاداب وتعمل كذلك كفنانة معاصرة تمارس بشكل أساسي كل من فنون الرسم والتصوير الا انها تهوى التنوع في استخدام الوسائط الاخرى لاثراء تجربتها الفنية فتمارس بشكل استثنائي كل من فنون التصوير الفوتوغرافي والرسوم المتحركة والتجهيز في الفراغ. عرضت أعمالها محليا ودوليا في معارض ومهرجانات وبيناليات ومتاحف حول العالم بما في ذلك: البينالي الاول للكتاب بالمتحف القومي برومانيا (2018)، بيروت أرت فير (2018)، ملتقى معا للفن المعاصرفي دورته الرابعة بالتعاون مع المركز الثقافي الدولي بالحمامات، دار المتوسط للثقافة والفنون، تونس (2019)، سمبوزيوم الاقصر الدولي في دورته العاشرة، مصر (2017)، بينالي بكين الدولي الخامس للفنون المعاصرة عام 2012 (الصين)، ومهرجان افلام الفيديو ذات الدقيقة الواحدة بمدينة أراو 2008 (سويسرا)، والمتحف المصري للفن المعاصر. كما شاركت في العديد من المعارض الفردية والجماعية بمصر والخارج وحصلت على أكثر من 25 جائزة و منحة دراسية من مؤسسات مختلفة بمصر والخارج مثل: منحة فنان مقيم من مؤسسة اليونيسكو للفنانين الشباب لعام 2012، منحة قيم فني من المؤسسة الثقافية السويسرية بالقاهرة لعام 2010، جائزة مؤسسة المورد الثقافي للإنتاج الفني للفنانين الشباب والكتاب لعام 2006 ، منحة دراسية من الهيئة الألمانية للتبادل العلمي 2005-2006، منحة فنان مقيم من مكتبة الاسكندرية لعام 2005، ومشاركات عديدة دوليا ومحليا في أكثر من 60 معرض. أعمال وئام المصرى ضمن المقتنيات الخاصة لدى العديد من المؤسسات والافراد مثل: مكتبة الإسكندرية و متحف الفن المصرى الحديث وصندوق التنمية الثقافية و المتحف الوطني القومى ببوخارست ومقتنيات خاصة لدى أفراد بمصر وألمانيا والولايات المتحدة الأمريكية وإسبانيا والامارات العربية المتحدة.
