Cora
AUGUST 15, 2013 - MAY 23, 2017

Cora was born August 15, 2013, to Todd and Holly McDonald of Houston. She was highly anticipated; her birth brought joy to her family, including fifteen maternal cousins. She seemed to develop normally. She was alert and aware of her surroundings. She matched pitch when she was sung to. She giggled often and fussed very little. She was born into a loving community of supportive family and friends. She is loved.

~Holly, Cora’s Mom

Tay-Sachs Disease

A baby with Tay-Sachs disease appears healthy at birth and seems to be developing normally for a few months. Symptoms generally appear by six months of age. While symptoms vary from one child to the next, there is always a slowing down of development. Gradually, Tay-Sachs children lose motor skills and mental functions. Over time, the child becomes blind, deaf, mentally retarded, paralyzed, and nonresponsive to the environment. Tay-Sachs children usually die by age five.
