The most profitable crop at least in the Carolinas was not cotton, it was the rice. Therefore, it was sometimes referred to as "Carolina Gold".

Rice is still very prevalent in the Gullah culture through food, offerings to the Orishas, farming and sometimes for decorations.

One of the healing aspects of rice is that it can actually extract low energy/vibration from one's body. This practice is not widely used in the culture today; but when used, a person would feel cleansed and uplifted. The best way to use the rice for extract was soaking the feet or hands in the rice.
