Andromeda VIII (And VIII/8) is a galaxy discovered in August 2003. It is a satellite of the Andromeda Galaxy, M31. Although its size and total luminosity are quite large, Andromeda VIII could not be detected for a long time due to its diffuse nature, since it was projected onto M32 (a large elliptical satellite of the Andromeda Galaxy) and the outer parts of the M31 disk. The galaxy was finally discovered by measuring the redshift of objects in front of M32, which, as it turned out, move at a speed different from M31 and M32 and, therefore, are part of another galaxy. The speed of approach of Andromeda VIII to us is about 500 km/s, which is 200 and 350 km/s faster than the speed of approach of M31 and M32, respectively. The discoverers found that 12 planetary nebulae, 3 globular clusters and a significant amount (4 ·105 M⊙) of interstellar neutral hydrogen are moving at the specified speed and, therefore, belong to Andromeda VIII."
