Have I ever told you about my brother Joe?
That good looking one,
the kind-hearted, soft-spoken one,
the unsung poet one,
who had a way with words one.
That king of pun one,
who made me always laugh one.
Yes, that well-read one,
who could've been on Jeopardy one.
That undeniably talented one,
who can sing and play three instruments all at once one,
well into the morning light one.
Yeah, the one who composed songs a lot more than one,
who could name you any song of the last century one,
or any historical trivia, for that matter, one.
Right, that can't-beat-his-cooking one no matter how I tried one,
who's a renaissance and dolce vita kinda guy one.
I meant that loving-in-his-own-way one,
whose smart humor can make anyone feel at home one.
Oh yes, that philosophical one,
whose gen-spirit was forever chasing eternal truths one.
That deeply wise one
who you'll-never-guess one
unless you really listen to him once,
whose poems dragged you to the depths of his soul one
yet let you touch the face of God all at once one.
And yes that one who went before us
who I will terribly miss one,
in ways he'll never know one.
Yes, that one!
That one
who is and will always be
