Erik Stinus
9.8 x 8.1 inch (h x w)
Linocut

Based on a pencil sketch from October 1966, Chittaprosad’s evocative linocut portrait of Danish poet, Erik Stinus is testament to the warmth of the friendship they shared. It was a friendship built on shared views of art, people and politics, which resulted in a number of collaborative projects. Stinus was among Chittaprosad’s friends who actively promoted his works abroad through socialist networks, helping him make ends meet in his later years.
A touching example of their camaraderie can be found on their scribblings on a card Chittaprosad had sent Stinus on New Year’s Day, 1966, showing a flock of birds flying over a river. Stinus wrote a poem on it and produced it as a greeting card, a copy of which reached Chittaprosad in 1967. The latter, in turn, scribbled on the same card a translation of his friend’s poem.
