Janet Kipp Tribus – Day at the Beach
Janet is a true dyed-in-the-wool Jersey Girl and, has been painting and doing art for almost 40 years. Her first foray was pen and ink house portraits in 1981, which was self -taught. Janet’s father was an architect and she was fortunate to inherit his artistic genes.
After many years of pen and ink and deeply yearning to work with color, Janet realized that if she couldn’t draw, no painting could be successful! She signed up for "Drawing on the Right Side of the Brain at the Montclair Art Museum, and it was a major leap forward for her art.
In 1984, Janet began oil painting in earnest. She enrolled in the Art Students League in New York City and was extremely fortunate to work with some very influential teachers, among them Earl Mayan and Knox Martin, Jr. Janet enjoyed many solo exhibits at Peck School, Morris Museum, Summit Playhouse, Park Avenue Club and Upper Montclair Woman’s Club. Also during that time, she entered many juried exhibits and won “Best in Show" at Mountain Art Show in Bernardsville, as well as the Wilson School. Workshops include Wolf Kahn in Maine and Oxbow, (a summer retreat of The Chicago lnstitute of Art). Janet has been living in Vero Beach for over 20 years. During this time, Janet has exhibited at The Admiralty Gallery, The Palm House Gallery and Center for
Spiritual Care. Janet has been asked to create a piece for the Riverside Theatre to be auctioned off commemorating their 50th Anniversary.
Janet enjoys pitting color against color in a composite of geometrical and discernible
objects. Her style has evolved intentionally into more abstracted paintings. The
PROCESS is of utmost importance to her. She doesn’t plan in advance the imagery; it starts with mark making, swooping arm movements and linear design. The resul1ing image should provide a sense of mystery and exercise of the senses. The materiality of oil paint, which affords the historical quality of under-painting, gives Janet the ability to control through trial and error. Janet intends for her paintings to stand harmoniously in terms of color, composition, and a sense of vibrancy.
