Yolanda Luce – Gunwale Vision
Most of Yolanda’s art is seen through the lens of her camera first. As a photography enthusiast she loves to capture moments with her lens as well as being open to new perspectives and interpretations of her surroundings. Whether a photo is recaptured on canvas or a brush reaches a print depends on how the photographed moment penetrated her heart. Sometimes the decision is based on simple matters of light and shadow and other times it is based on a deeper level of emotion.
“Once the brush is dipped in the paint, if I allow myself to fully submerge into the subject matter all worry, all stress, all fear disappears. This is where I find my solace, this is where I can breathe.”
An island girl, Yolanda was born in Puerto Rico and has lived there, in the front range of the Rocky Mountains, and in South Florida. The essence of both water and mountains is in her blood. The smell of the ocean air as she walks onto a beach relaxes her, the sound of the ocean nudges her to her Creator, the sight of a mountain ranges excites her and the thought of a family member walking into the woods and never returning terrifies her. The constants in Yolanda’s life have been artists, musicians, faith, love and travel. Yolanda married a musician and together they are raising their daughter, an artist and musician in her own right. All these things have helped shape the way Yolanda sees things today.
Yolanda’s “Gunwale Vision” painting is a reinterpretation of a photograph she took while boating. If you look closely, you will see references of downtown Stuart past and present.
