Hydra and more art by Nina Samuels

Hydra, 2022
Ceramics

This particular work is an installation piece consisting of over 25 individual ceramic sculptures. These are magnified versions of freshwater hydra which are nearly microscopic organisms living in ponds and small bodies of water. I chose to make a large-scale representation of these to gain a greater appreciation of their beauty rather than their size. Each organism is hand sculpted out of stoneware and finished with an acrylic paint. These sculptures are attached onto a wall and their diagonal assemblage provokes visual movement throughout the piece.
