Quetzalcoatl, known as the ‘plumed serpent’ or ‘feathered serpent,’ held a position of great significance among the gods in the ancient Mesoamerican belief system. The name Quetzalcoatl is derived from two Nahuatl words, the language of the Aztecs: ‘quetzal,’ referring to the emerald-plumed bird, and ‘coatl,’ meaning serpent.
