34 I Pray to the Birds
24 x 24 in (h x w)
fabric collage

Elizabeth Quinlan - 34 –
Today the Birds are full of many colors

They fly and sometimes watch, the trees—
and sit on the branches. Their brilliance is a joy!

Above the sky they fly higher and higher, they
go towards the mountains free—

What songs they make, calling to each other!
I can hear their wings as they fly fast. Sometimes

they call to each other! I can hear them far
away. The bluejays are very loud, though
they are beautiful.

Some of the birds fly down, to rest on the branches,
the bridge, or in the grasses.
Then they fly away again. I can hear them but,
do not see them.

Then so swift the crows leave in groups, the loud
screeches, as they chase the Hawks! Sometimes
I’d see one on a pole.

The sky is deep blue today, and with white clouds!
Soon the dusk will come—just before the night
when they will float up into the atmosphere.
