"Lost" is a profound meditation on grief, sisterhood, and the silent toll of service. A female soldier kneels, her face buried in her hands, clutching the dog tags of a lost sister-in-arms—a fellow veteran whose sacrifice and struggles ended too soon. The folded flag remains a symbol of duty, but the real weight she carries is personal, intimate, and immeasurable. Around her, red handprints and boot prints stain the fragmented American flag, representing the blood, trauma, and lives forever altered by service. As a disabled female veteran, I created this piece to honor the unique bonds between women warriors, the losses that are often unseen, and the battles that extend far beyond the battlefield. Lost is a tribute to those we have served beside, those we have mourned, and those who remain forever with us in memory and in heart.
