Harry French has focused on printmaking techniques in his studio since retiring from education in 2001. His woodcut series of mythological creatures was inspired by his observation of the Gundestrup Cauldron at the National Museum of Denmark in 2008. The woodblocks are cut on Meranti plywood and printed by hand in small editions on handmade English and Japanese papers. Many of his ideas in art and design are informed by visits to cathedrals, medieval churches, and museums across the UK and Northern Europe.
Based upon a mythical beast on the Gundestrup Cauldron in the National museum of Copenhagen.
