A roman road that linked Exeter in the southwest and Lincoln to the northeast, via Ilchester, Bath, Cirencester and Leicester. Here, near my studio it is now just a straight track that leads down from a set of earthworks by a hill fort (Beacon Hill). The web of branches and trees forms a tunnel with a circular light or portal at the end and the strong evening sunlight makes the whole scene glow within. The effect was translated to some of the circular planet paintings.
