LEGO Brick System , 1950s

The iconic LEGO brick system is illustrated in this patent filing. The idea traces its origin to 1954, when toymaker Godtfred Kirk Christiansen was intrigued when a colleague observed about the toy industry, “What an industry this is – no system of any kind whatsoever!” As an alternative to designing individual toys, Godtfred began imagining building blocks as a system in play.
