Linocut

The ‘Angels without Fairy Tales’ series exemplifies Chittaprosad’s life-long commitment to social and political engagement through art. He created these empathetic images of the everyday struggles of child labour and abuse for publication, based on the cut-outs left for inserting text, as he paid as much attention to the means of production and dissemination as he did to the form and content of the image.

He uses the medium of a linocut with great versatility, creating stark contrasts in blocks of black and white when denoting power and optimism, while fracturing and fragmenting the surface with little relief when representing scenes like this one.
