Woven cotton; collection of Todd Goodheart

Hatton did not teach weaving at the Fort Collins campus; it was the bailiwick of her colleague, Norma Walker, who for nearly fifteen years was the only other faculty member in Home Economics devoted to "art and handcraft." But Hatton worked to expand the weaving studio as she developed the art department, finding space for looms first in Spruce Hall and later in the basement of Old Main. She also wove on a loom of her own, especially in her later years when macular degeneration hindered her work in other media. The two table runners here are both four-harness patterns; the smaller one follows a summer and winter pattern, while the larger blue runner is a crackle weave.
