Gregory XIII and the Gregorian Calendar

The pope Gregory XIII proclaimed changes to the Julian calendar in 1582. The new calendar made years divisible by 100 not leap years, if the year was indivisible by 400. This was caused by closer calculations of a solar year - by the Julian calendar, the solar year lasts 365 ¼ days, and by the Gregorian calendar, the solar year lasts 365.2422 days. This also caused a shift of 10 days - after 4th October 1582 there was 15th October 1582.
