Kyra Husbands is a multidisciplinary artist, with an interest in curatorial studies and art history. Kyra is currently completing her studies at the School of Visual Arts majoring in Visual and Critical Studies towards a bachelor’s in fine arts. Born and raised in Beacon NY, she grew an interest in art through the community around her. Today her goal is to continue to make art and become more involved in the local art scene. Through her paintings she looks to present the beauty of black individuals in a refined way to express the importance of representation of black people in the arts. It is common for the black body to be immediately politicized in America; and as important as it is to create honest work reflecting the hardships of being black in America, it is just as important to create work separate from our trauma that is meant to be liberating, relatable, and simply beautiful. Her paintings are vibrant intimate portraits of family meant to be presented to the public for others to relate to themselves.
