The painting was completed from memory after returning from a moonlit visit to the circle in the remote area near Lands End. At night our visual awareness is different - perhaps more open to suggestion and imagination. Thinking of the stones being placed more than 4000 years ago when there were so few us compared to today. Yet the feeling is just like yesterday - alive. The painting, like a planet or a single cell also gives an impression of the moon and the impressive luminosity of the quarzitic granite. The under painting contains pattern and texture suggesting genetic material, encapsulated in the glass-like resin. The black contains everything (absorbing all light and matter) and is all consuming, surrounding the particular, the circular image of gestures, marks, texture and colour.
