Somerset Lanes around my home are often deeply cut hollow ways, cut out, in the days before the roads were surfaced by generations of horse and cart traffic and washed by rains down to the soft bedrock. At times you glimpse the way snaking ahead or a tree lined hillfort in the distance. In summer the vegetation and flowers are luxurious and colourful like a garden of Eden
