This painting is directly related to the Boscawen-Ûn stone circle paintings. At the same time it relates to viruses specifically the SARS-CoV-2 virus, also known as the Nova Coronavirus. Having spent time there in the day as well as night the picture represents the crystal make-up of the granite but also the relation to the moon and the perceived flow of energy lines and currents that flow in and around the circle.

The black surround interest me in that it consumes all of the light spectrum. Everything is absorbed no colours are reflected. Therefore everything exists outside these circles. The selected pigments and the paper inside the circles reject light becoming only the colours they absorb (which is the opposite to the colour they appear). The forms created within the circles represent natural process – the form of living spaces, which represent only a fraction of the wholeness of the cosmos the on-going relationships between the selected elements of the overall spectrum.

The Nova series represent nature on the cosmological scale but also on a microscopic level. Looking like planets or moons in space they are also about natural law at a cellular level where viruses can attack and replicate inside single cells.
