A pair of Wood Storks interact on their nest in the Everglades strengthening their pair bond before mating. The return of flows to the Everglades means an increase in fish production, earlier access to critical foraging habitat, and an earlier start to nesting, all of which are key to stork nesting success. During dryer years, storks tend to nest later in the season such that nesting often overlaps with the onset of the rainy season. When this occurs, the marshes quickly refill with water, essential shallow foraging habitat is lost, and nesting typically fails.
