Born in Newcastle-upon-Tyne in 1944, Phyllida Barlow studied at the Chelsea School of Art and the Slade School of Fine Art. For over forty years, she taught at Slade and other art schools. Barlow has produced a unique and dynamic body of work focused on the investigation into materiality, form, and process in the wake of the Minimalist and Post-minimalist art movements of the 1960s and ‘70s. She works with diverse materials on a size and scale, creating massive organic shapes and accumulations that directly relate to the urban environment. In addition to sculpture, she has created a vast body of work on paper, primarily painted drawings. Barlow created her Commissioned print for Print Club in collaboration with Paupers Press in London. The print is based on a painted drawing which the artist created specifically for this commission. Master printer Michael Taylor hand printed the four aluminum plates bearing the yellow, red, blue, and black color separations.
