Continuing another West African tradition of the Gullah culture, white flowers as an offering were sent to the ancestors. It is a sacred ceremony to approach the ocean, cast white flowers into the ocean to symbolize those who were lost at sea.

White flowers are used to cleanse and purify energy. As an offering, it blesses and honors the fallen, cleanses their pain, and lights a path to their next life (heaven, next life, or some place benevolent). It is healing for the ancestors, the ocean and the person making the offering.
