Artist Statement
My drawings and paintings are images from my life. I want to convey to others the way I see our world. It can be something microscopic or huge and powerful. When I see something that touches me, I want to recreate that beauty or power or emotion. It can be intricate in detail or beautiful in its simplicity. I hope that it will touch my viewers in some way. I find it extraordinary that, at this time in my life, I should find such joy and satisfaction, from art. I have so much to learn, but I have never enjoyed a journey so much. Luckily I have enjoyed the encouragement and support of my family who all have original ‘H. Duplassie’ paintings hanging on their walls. After trying out watercolour, dye on silk and acrylic, I decided to put all my energy into oil painting. I usually paint from my own photos. I like to paint landscapes and I look for great contrasts in shadow and for great colour. I have an extensive collection of coloured glass so lately I have been exploring the light and shadow in still life.
