Requiem and more art by Janet Baker

14.5 x 14.5 inch (h x w)
Mixed media assemblage on found base including frame
not for sale

Artist Statement
The found frame and background that form the basis of this work provided the perfect "surprise" setting for this piece—I had originally planned to use only the frame. This is a mixed-media assemblage that encompasses my own wood-burning in juxtaposition with various carefully selected objects. Coming together to become a memorial to my son, this is one of those pieces that fell into place quite quickly and immediately seemed "right".

Artist Bio
Janet Baker is a visual artist who discovered poetry while completing a Double Major in Writing and History in Art at the University of Victoria during a five-year hiatus from making art. She graduated in 2010 with a BFA with Distinction. An elected member of several professional art societies, she continues to make art and write in Mississauga, Victoria, and elsewhere. Most recently, two of her poems are included in an anthology of pandemic poems written during the early months of the pandemic. “The Sky is Falling, The Sky Is Falling” was an initiative of Planet Earth Poetry in Victoria B.C.
