Artist Statement
To amplify the positive during times of isolation and uncertainty, I began exploring a new series I call The Covid Flowers. The paintings are colourful flowers in oils which push the edges of the canvas. They’re portraits of a single flower, up close and intimate in its depiction. I was able to explore the relationship between realism and abstraction. The flowers appear lifelike in their portrayal, but my brushwork, use of space and colours allude to my love of abstract painting. Being forced to slow down by necessity, I’ve
become contemplative in my artistic practice.
