Artist Statement
Little Darlings is an artwork depicting a moment of childhood innocence and relationship.
Through an exploration of the scratchboard medium, sharp tools carved into the black ink which sits on a white clay layer and board substrate, create depth of form. Cross-hatching, stippling and hatching serve to reveal a command of line that enables the rendering of shapes and textures. The portrait figures are allowed dimensionality and realism. Strategic pops of colour further the narrative in the use of India inks. The viewer is invited to witness honest emotion and to perhaps journey to a similar moment in time where such an act of tenderness is remembered.
