Artist Statement
One of the many lessons this pandemic has taught us is that our workplaces can be fluid. Whether it’s working from home while juggling household chores and kids, or working on the front lines serving the community, each line of work and livelihood is unique and should be celebrated. “Not your average 9 to 5” features female entrepreneurs and artisans, who are selling their handmade goods on the streets of Antigua, Guatemala. I was drawn to their vibrant artwork and clothing, as well as their business spirit as they made their sales. With this piece, I hoped to capture the colours, hustle and bustle and community spirit of these businesswomen.
