Artist Statement
Unbroken Moments of Natural Beings illuminates the importance of celebrating and reconnecting to natural ways of living through natural methods of giving sustenance to those in their earliest years. The public eye, itself, needs to reconnect so that women and new mothers are not ostracized for such natural and wholesome aspects of newborn care. The piece changes the narrative around breastfeeding by attempting to destigmatize and release women from issues of being ostracized, mistreated, or leered at for performing such a generous, natural, and beautiful act. Mothers don’t need further pressure from the public labeling them or simple acts such as feeding their child as something that needs to remain hidden, instead it should be a safe, respected, and wondrous moment time.

Artist Biography
Rachel Harris is a Canadian artist who works primarily in painting, sculpture, and installation. She focuses on sustainability, community, and rethinking the way in which we consider the natural world in order to illuminate how nature itself is intertwined into our being. Harris volunteered for two years at the Hands On Centre in the Art Gallery of Ontario in order to pass along her love for the arts to another generation. She completed her undergraduate degree at Ontario College of Art and Design and graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Drawing and Painting and a minor in English in June 2014.
