"Free Huey" became a rallying cry for the Black Panther movement and well beyond after founder Huey P. Newton was was charged with killing police officer in 1967. This painting was inspired by Huey and all of the Panthers of the 60s and 70s, the loss of so many of our Black men and the constant threats to their survival. The three people reflected in the sunglasses represent the White establishment of that era.
