Mind-body play

This project is part of the INTAC Yellow Mosaics -group collaborations. The Yellow Mosaics focuses on mental health in their projects.

Large scale artwork combining dance / movement and traditional mediums used for drawing / painting

Art is the most immediate expression of the mind-body problem. If there is a thought – does it exist independent of the physical expression such as a work of art that illustrates the thought? If you have a work of art: can it exist without the thought it emerged from? The mind and body work together, thus they can’t be held separate from each other while dealing with (mental) health.
In the project Mind-body play we search for the common ground between the mind and the body – a connection between the state of mind and the physical expression. We search for a state in which we focus on the mind and the body simultaneously, fluidly expressing ourselves through this physical ‘play’ that happens in the intersection of the two through improvisation.

Movement can be a way to connect to, ground and express oneself, as can creating art be therapeutic. We want to experiment with combining these two processes together. The idea is to draw by using mindful movement and improvise using the body as a whole. We draw with charcoal on large paper sheets. The work is a performance, where the core of the work is in the process, not the result.

Mediums: charcoal on paper sheets, might add others later. Filmed (Gustavo), music added (Mikko).
