Burning of the Land #30 and more art by Veronica Mungaloon Hudson (Pitjantjatjara people)

Burning of the Land #30, 2020
111 x 111 cm (h x w)
AUD $ 2 000
acrylic on canvas

Land is burnt to clear it of old growth and encourage new growth. Animals are attracted to the new growth and they can then be hunted for bush tucker. It's a traditional cycle of life which keeps our young healthy and strong as they learn to hunt and gather.

To get the desired effect in this painting, grasses and branches have been used to apply paint. Some of the seed heads from the grasses are embedded in the paint.
