On the Green Track Pre-Cop 15 Youth Engagement Campaign

Context: #TheGreenTrack was DG ENV's youth engagement initiative and campaign on biodiversity, which aimed to start a conversation and bring young people's views and ideas to decision-maker's attention at COP15 and beyond. The campaign is also a flagship initiative of the European Year of Youth 2022. Developed with the youth and for the youth, this youth engagement provided a platform for the youth to raise their voices and concerns for nature and bring their needs and recommendations to the attention of policymakers.

Objective: Our aim was to empower and mobilise young people by creating and offering a platform where they can debate and exchange their views, expectations and ideas regarding biodiversity, nature and other related topics. Through social media campaigns we aimed to engage young citizens in the debate on the future of the EU and global policies related to nature, biodiversity, and climate change; and to ensure that their voices are heard and taken into account as much as possible by decision-makers at COP15 and beyond. We also wanted to help position the EU as an engaged and credible global leader in international negotiations, leading by example with the European Green Deal; and to raise awareness of the work that the EU is doing to tackle the climate and environmental crises.
