Artist Statement

I created this image for a Renaissance Art class I took via Florence University. The goal of the image is to discover the Italian Renaissance era and apply the concepts and ideas in my own work. This image is part of a series where I portray Madonna with little Baby Jesus. The Catching Cupid image is meant to be a take on holding on to love in hard times.

Artist Bio

I started photographing back in 2019, when my now 3-year-old was born. Capturing his image to create monthly photos of his growth made me fall in love with photography. I decided to enrol at Humber College to pursue my studies and open my own business. I want to give the art of photos and memories to others.

During my studies at Humber College, I have faced many difficulties including a high-risk pregnancy with my 4th child (he is the little Cupid in the image). His life is a miracle in itself as I was told by doctors “he might not make it”. Those words will forever be engraved in my memory.

Recently, on April 7 of this year, I lost a family member to a tragic car accident. Her and her unborn baby’s passing have affected me a lot. My work as a photographer has taken on a new level in which I explore the dark side of being human, the emotions we have when we lose someone so close to us, and the time it takes to pick up the pieces once more and move on.

I have realized that my work as a photographer is beyond snapping images or creating art. I have missed the chance to create maternity images to our beloved Chrissy, who was only 21 years old. I missed the opportunity to capture her happy, bubbly self. As a photographer, I realize the importance of photos. Photos - tangible little evidence of a life once lived, will at some point mean the world to someone. My power to capture moments so precious and fleeting holds an importance in my life as I realize I have the ability to capture and pass on family legacies time after time.

To me, being a photographer comes with a lot of emotions. To me, being a good photographer means I allow these emotions to come and go like the waves of the ocean. And these waves can create powerful art.
