Bushfire and more art by Littledoo (Wangkumara people)

Bushfire, 2020

acrylic on canvas

This depicts the burning of Country throughout East Gippsland in early January 2020. Half the populations of koalas and kangaroos were lost in this great bushfire. Lives, homes, cars and livelihoods were lost. 400,000 hectares were burnt.

It was a devastating and emotional time for every Australian, especially those in East Gippsland, and even for many other people around the world.

This painting reminds us not to forget events like this so we can handle things better if it was to happen again.
