Democratic Republic of Congo , 2018

This collective story cloth is made by a group of women who have worked in the gold mines. Their textile describes life in the mine where violent bosses rape the female workers regularly and with impunity; if the women resist, their meager wages ($3 per week) are withheld; if they report rape, they are charged with theft of gold and jailed.
