In this collective story cloth, the women’s circle described a horrific shared memory of the war: On the sacred Muslim eve of Kurban in 1992, the Bosnian Serb army surrounded an enclave which included their village, forcing residents to flee their homes without warning. They fled over the mountains/hills to reach a bridge where they hoped to cross over the river towards Croatia and, with the help of peacekeepers at the UN outpost on the other side of the river, make their way to safety. Bosnian Serb troops were at the bridge crossing, holding men and teenage boys back while letting women and children cross the bridge. Many of their family members were never seen again.

“Even though I was sad and upset I also felt relief when I finished sewing some parts…I don’t know, like I left it on the cloth…It is still inside of me, but it doesn’t hold me so much.”
“We share the same story and these women helped me to deal with it when I was upset because I was remembering something. I was not alone."
