Bosnia , 2016

“We went across our beloved Una river not knowing who would live and who would die,” said the maker of this story cloth. It depicts a scene of an exchange of detainees that took place along the border between Bosnia and Croatia. The UN building represents a symbol of safety and hope to the many women and children who crossed over the bridge to safety during the war. But the UN peacekeepers did not protect the men who remained on the Bosnian side, many of whom were killed and buried in mass graves, their bodies never fully recovered and identified.
